AIM was recently honored to receive a letter from Mr. Sea Kosal, the Under Secretary of State of the Kingdom of Cambodia, recognizing our partnership on a recent raid. The letter, which can be found below, was written to AIM SWAT Director Eric Meldrum on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation after the AIM SWAT Team assisted in the rescue of a Cambodian woman who had been trafficked to China.
We sincerely appreciate the ongoing partnership we have with Cambodian government agencies and local police that allow us to bring freedom to so many people through the rescue operations performed by AIM SWAT Team.
About the Raid
As a result of the work of AIM’s China Rescues project, a Cambodian woman was successfully repatriated after being trafficked in China. Following the events that brought her back home, the Phnom Penh Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Police Department (AHTJP) requested assistance from AIM SWAT Team with the identification and arrest of the traffickers responsible.
AIM Investigators held detailed interviews with the victim and family members, and two suspects were identified and found to be associated with an address in Phnom Penh. The AIM SWAT Team conducted a covert surveillance operation and carried out a raid at the address leading to the arrest of both suspects, a Chinese male and a Cambodian female, on Tuesday, June 27th.
Both suspects were interviewed and taken to court where they were charged with human trafficking related offenses and have been remanded to prison to await trial. The AIM SWAT legal team is representing the victim throughout the case.
