Joshua's Story

As a result of abuse, Sophea became pregnant at age 15. Frightened and hungry, she hid herself in her home, where she had been the head of the household since her parents left two years prior. She gave birth two months early to Joshua, who only weighed 1.2 lbs at birth and lost his hearing.

At 2 ½ years old, Joshua had never heard his mother’s voice. Thanks to our generous donors, he was able to have cochlear implant surgery this Spring and is now experiencing new sounds every day!
